Effective & appropriate management systems
This key element reflects the adequacy of the basic safety management system(s) (including processes, procedures, training and workplace environment) to support safe working behaviours and foster positive safety attitudes across the organisation. Many safety management systems unwittingly present actual or perceived difficulties to employees that can induce unsafe behaviours, e.g. excessively complex procedures and controls leading to people not using procedures, or taking short cuts.
